It is true that Christmas, means different things to different people. For church going traditionalists, attending a special Christmas mass in church offers deep meaning. Going to a Christmas concert to see their child perform in a play or sing a traditional carol, causes parents chests to swell with pride. To many practicing religious traditions maybe paramount. To some…it is the joy on the faces of their children as they open their gifts. To others it is the look in small children’s eyes as they take in a colorfully lit Christmas tree for the first time in their lives. To many, it is the gathering of family and friends, some of whom they have not seen for a long time. To yet others, it is the smell & taste of special foods, the likes of which can only be found at this time of year.

But what of those rare few people left to face an adversity so big that they almost cannot bear it….at this time of year? Those few…in the process of losing a dear loved one to a horrid disease? Those that are devastated, homeless and hungry due to a hurricane, drought or flood? Those that just lost their job, with no money to pay their mounting bills? Those that are in the confines of a raging war? What kind of Christmas are they experiencing?

The greatest gift these people could possibly hope for is peace and quiet….a roof over their head and a warm meal in their belly…if they could keep it down. The basic principles of life are so simple. Yet there are those, for whom it is impossible to achieve.

We take our serene life for granted. Just because we live large in the moment here, doesn’t mean it is alright with the rest of the world.

If it were possible to trade places with these people, so that they may truly enjoy the rest of their lives…I would do it. There are so many in need…good & kind people.

This summer I started something. I started to give away things I had too much of…to complete strangers. The look of shock and bewilderment on their faces, alarmed me. I had not expected this. But I now understand why. Most people are not used to receiving something for nothing…esp. from strangers. I have since gotten used to it. Now I start to grin….as I plan my next escapade. Their look of amazement, relief and then happiness…is my greatest gift.

My dear gardening friends have also blessed me with their kind words and generous gifts. I sincerely hope I can return the flavor in kind. And if I don’t return it directly back to them, maybe I can roll it forward…to someone else…keeping this wonderfully satisfying tradition going.

We have 6 healthy happy grandchildren…a little family dynasty. And we, too are healthy and alive.

(I) have nothing to complain about (really). I am truly blessed. I have everything that I need and more.

May peace and kindness consume your heart. Forgive those who do not truly understand who you are or what you are going through. May 2012 offer you opportunities to be the very best that you can be. May it also offer an easier road for travel, in your life experiences. Thank you & bless you, one and all, today, tomorrow and always.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2012
